@schildty12345 lol I read ~100 pages today on my iphone. it was ok actually .

  2. gavin104471 says:

    1) That’s true about changing the font size. But if you change the screen view to landscape the font size enlarges to fill the width of the screen and makes it easier to read.
    2) With Kindle 2 (which I’ve had for only a few days) I transfer PDFs from my desktop via the USB cable and store them on my Kindle for reading anywhere. (I hate reading stuff on my laptop.)

I’m very happy with my Kindle 2.

  3. Alex Ngan says:

How silly to compare iphone with ebook! Nonsense

  4. Tony Franherstd says:

If I had a "word" for Chris Pirrillo, it would be "ignorant , it has a mini usb port, not a "charger port" it turns out, that is the charger! which works on any computer!
Also, you can download your books, the books you buy on amazon are drm, the system allows any ebook. If you want actually read (not play games) on your device, the kindle has eInk, which is not going to lower your serotonin levels, such as the iPad’s, iPod’s & iPhone’s led screens are proven to do (look it up, its 100% true).

  5. Mara Smith says:

@Saffiros I’d agree that there’s nothing better than the going to a bookstore or a library. I don’t think that this will be phased out in a generation or two, but I think that a digital reader will HELP people read. It makes it more appealing to younger crowds, as well. I think we’re losing a lot with the progression of technology, but the fact remains that it’s human nature to go "onwards and upwards" (in SOME opinions…) and that the world is on the fast track to being 100% digital, sadly.

  6. angelisa cephas says:

your a jerk!! u wish u could buy any kindle, 2, 3 or dx

  7. whiskydog777 says:

having watched this geek i can understand why theres so many highschool shootings in America

  8. ChibiMoonBunny says:

why spend extra money when u can buy the actual book, and then sell it back, plus reading screens and such is very bad on your vision

  9. newharmony85 says:

Reading on your phones LCD screen is hard on your eyes and your cell phones batterie life. I do use the app on my cell phone to access my library but only if I forgot to charge my e-reader or I forgot to bring it. I dont recomend buying a e-reader unless you already into reading.

  10. Blue-eyed Fox says:

I would take a Kindle over a Ipad any day of the week.

  11. Morris West says:

The Kindle uses Linux 2.5 just like the Android Phone is also Linux… I use Linux on everything even my computer that runs Linux Mint, and Linux Ubuntu that are FREE …

  12. ThePowerToDIY says:

it an ebook it is only for books you idiot, people want to read books not email, play games, ect. bad video

  13. XENAXON says:

Chris, you failed to notice the purpose of the digital ebook reader concept.

The ebook reader is not supposed to be small or portable, or have games or view emails. It is supposed to replace physical paper books in turn reducing wood resource usage, reduce space usage, reduce book costs. It can also hold whole libraries and collections of books in it.

Another key aspect that you missed was the fact that the eInk is made so that it doesn’t strain the eyes on prolonged usage. And battery life…

  14. Constantine Robbins says:

  15. blueblossomblues says:

The kindle is meant for readers – people that read a lot! Cannot even compare with iphone or ipod. I know a lot of people that carry several books at a time – very handy to carry your whole library with you. Well an ipod touch certainly can’t fit 3,500 books and it will positively "twist" your eyes.

  16. Tjita1 says:

@TottokoHamtaro10 Yeah, I hear they thought that like 10-20 years ago. Welcome to 2010 though, where we know better.

  17. Veronica Cantabrana says:

ok..let me explain myself a bit more..clearly. I meant that in the future….when all trees are pretty much GONE…it could help to have this as an alternative choice to have the printed word…(or uploaded word then). ….and could then be used in place of what it is used now..books. By no means I am implying I hate books…in fact I love reading and I love books….but let’s be realistic…and think ahead.

  18. awesomevegan says:

The Kindle 2 is now available on Amazon. It includes a read aloud feature and I THINK auto page turning as well. 🙂

  19. Travone Hill says:

  20. PayLoadz says:

The kindle really got me reading again. I normally read maybe a book per month, but since I got a kindle (as a work related testing device) I started to read multiple books at once.

The best part about it is the ability to "preview" a book for free. You can preview a ton of books, and only buy the ones you like.

They even unlocked the device so you can put your own PDF files on it now so the cost is a lot better. Though, I’ve spent a good amount of money so far on eBooks. Thanks Chris!

  21. Realityisnotmatter says:

I just bought a new third generation kindle for 189 bucks.. I have downloaded free books that are worth about five hundred bucks.. therefore, the kindle is free..and a great way to read a book……..

  22. tdou says:

    I love this guy.

  23. Andrew Wood says:

I think it is obvious that one would recommend an iPod touch over a Kindle, I don’t think that’s a fair comparison. He is comparing a product that is highly specialized over one that is more general. An iPod touch does all that a Kindle does and more, but someone in the market for a Kindle is looking for more specialization out of their electronic product. It would be useless to say, for the same price a person should purchase an iPod touch because they seem to be two totally different things

  24. Frozen North says:

    This guy is a dummy

  25. DajaMonae15 says:

im guessing you would rather have a BIG HUGE ipad over kindle…

  26. Yog Sothoth says:

Kindle too big, iPhone too… meh (i hate apple products outside of mac computers)… Get a sony pocket e-reader! Small! Fits in a purse! Won’t make your eyes bleed from reading!

  27. Nothing says:

I hate people that learn the word DRM. It is a horrible word that got released to the public. People like Chris, think that he knows a word and he is now a master of using that word. DRM. Sure, I hate the DRM. Well when you buy a book on a kindle, you have a iPhone, you have a kindle app. You then have a large view fan base. People that are still learning the ropes think they know DRM is bad. Then I should use a iPad because he never mentioned it. Well I don’t see the logic in that. Chris read!

  28. Sabu Hariharan says:

Seems.. he doesn’t understand the purpose of that device!!.
It was a time waste listening to him ..

  29. MT Rider says:

@schildty12345 but why buy a device that costs as much as it does that has a monochrome display! its 2010 ffs

  30. aussienerds says:

Mate, he’s making that comparison because the iPhone is one of the few more popular devices capable of being able to be turned on and start reading an e-book. so, no, you are not getting the point.

  31. medusasheadcolony says:

i tried navigating it, and because i do love READING and already has troubles onfinding space as to where to put my books. i go for kindle.. although im not very sure about apple though coz the there is really no comparison. kindle is fro reading; while apple is for other entertainments.., to me its pretty much the same. im not into brands, it doesnt really matter though, just as long as the product is serving its purpose.

  32. ashepe says:

Prefer reading books on Ipod touch instead of Kindle? Then you are indeed obsessed with Apple 🙂

  33. Mariano Rodriguez Muro says:

wtf with his comparisons…. apples to oranges. "what are you more likely to take with you, your iphone or your kindle", ok, lets do another stupid comparison, "what are you more likely to take with you, your iphone or your blue-ray" "iphone or hidef audio system" "iphone or gaming desktop"… wtf man… apples and oranges…

  34. CodedLockFilms says:

Seems fairly impartial and informative. Thanks much!

  35. awesomevegan says:

Agreed! Backlit screens are great for gaming and web surfing but If I am going to read for hours at a time, I want it to be on my Kindle. Less eye strain, no tired hands from reading heavy books, simple push of a button to turn a page. I love my Kindle. I am biased. I admit it <3

  36. Kaushik Choudhury says:

I have heard that the font size of the personal pdf loaded in kindle cannot be changed …is it true ??

And can we directly connect the kindle to PC & load the pdf to kindle to read ..

  37. Trav I says:

Who reads a 3-400 page book on their phone?

  38. bradrnstyle says:

    WHAT IS "DRM" ????

  39. Nevada2444 says:

@sivart54 i do on my iPhone4 – it’s real easy, in fact I’ve read most of Chuck Palahniuk and a few others, I’ve got the complete Malazan collection. Which you know even a single Malazan book is a pain to haul around. Granted the screen is small and each page contains 1/6th of the text of a book page, but when you start reading you stop noticing tapping the side of the screen to turn teh pages. I actually read faster on it than with a real book.

  40. Constantine Robbins says:

@greenfeld5 YAS I AGREEE WIT YUO. ALLSO IT

  41. newharmony85 says:

Why is he reviewing an ebook reader when he doesn’t even read books. He would theoreticly read ebooks on his Iphone because he doesn’t understand how hard it is to read on an a tiny LCD screen or how draining that would be on battary life of his phone. Not to mention how hard it is lug around a full novel.

  42. cant99touch99this says:

FUCK YOU cloud iam going with CLAUD

  43. awesomevegan says:

The Kindle DX has a larger screen I am interested to see how this will be utilized for textbooks for students.Even the regular sized Kindle for novels and literature is ideal for students. I can’t wait to see the color e-ink. Will be amazing for students! I know I would have loved to have this in high school and college.

  44. Mara Smith says:

You buy a kindle in order to carry around dozens of books. Yeah sure you can take a paper back. If you find a me a way to carry a few dozen books with me at all times, let me know. And comparing an iphone and an ereader is just ridiculous as well as extraneous.

  45. ORCA4312 says:

VG video. How does DRM affect buying and using books on this device?

  46. John Richardson says:

This isn’t very helpful. I thought you were going to review the Kindle’s pros and cons; instead, you just express an opinion about paper versus computer readouts.

  47. mytuber81 says:

4:25 – 4:48 Huh?? The Amazon Kndle DOES have a USB port AND a/c adaptor, the USB comes with an a/c adaptor built into it.

  48. Banjojo says:

can’t you read email on a kindle?

  49. Tha Original LaLa says:

@pjcsisabel I am interested in getting a kindle. I don’t know much about it but it appears like you do. When you say you can browse the web, I want to know exactly what can you browse. This guy says it has limits to how much you can browse. Please tell me how much you know on this whole ebook subject. Thank you.

  50. gavin104471 says:

About creating PDFs from Web pages, for reading on a Kindle …

To read static Web pages (e.g. tutorials, etc.) I save the HTML file to my laptop. I copy the entire file and paste it to Word, change the font to Arial and save it as a PDF. (Arial is clearer to read on Kindle than my browser’s default font.)

Note: Word 2007 docs can be saved as PDFs if you download the free Word plugin from MS. If you don’t have Word 2007, you can download a free PDF writer, such as PDF995.
